FAITH MEANS
BEING ABLE TO LOOK UP

A man said to the Gadfly, “I have heard you say things that are not in the Bible.  You had better watch yourself, lest you stumble and fall.”

The Gadfly said, “There once was a man who was very careful wherever he went, lest he stumble and fall.  He spent his whole life looking at his own feet, in order not to stumble over anything. From the dawn of his religious understanding until the day he died, he lived his life never having seen a bird fly.  Nor did he ever know the beauty of the heavens above.”

The man asked, “What are you saying?  You talk as if there is something to see besides Jesus.  But only Jesus shows us the truth.”

The Gadfly said, “What I am saying is, if Jesus points the way to a star, don’t stand around looking at your feet.  Look up to the star.”
