BIBLE SEX AND ORCHID PIETY

During a discussion group after Mass, a man said, “One of the things that keep my marriage healthy is my lust for my wife.”

A celibate and now startled priest stood up, spilling his glass of water, and said, “Lust is not healthy.  The Bible condemns it as a great evil.  And our church takes the strongest stand against it.  Perhaps you meant to use a different word?”

The Gadfly spoke up saying, “Sexual lust is not evil.  Rather, it is nature’s way of insuring that humans reproduce, regardless of whether or not they appreciate its beauty or necessity.  Look at any flower.  The most wonderful part is the blossom itself.  And this is the sex organ of the plant on prominent display and full of beauty. The reproductive impulse in animals is no less Godly than the appearance of flowers.  The glory of a single flower has more power of truth than the whole history of Christianity’s hatred and fear of sex.”
