Sayings of a Gadfly

PIETY MUD PUDDLE

Several people lay dying in a hospital from AIDS.

A pastor was walking by on his way to the hospital cafeteria and said, “It is a shame that gays do not repent of their sin.  Because of their unrepentant hearts, they must suffer this visitation of God’s judgment upon them and then spend eternity in hell.”

The Gadfly said to the pastor, “What is it in your heart that has you digging through the rubble of human despair to find your own vindication?  Is this the legacy that you have received from the gift of your faith in God: to bathe in the misery of others as if you would find your own cleansing in their pain?  Do you remember the story of the Good Samaritan?  He helped someone in need. But a priest moved to the other side of the road, and walked past without even speaking to the helpless man.  I tell you pastor, it would have been better for you to have walked past without saying a word, than to drag the name of God through the mud of your piety.”
