THE TAO OF DEBTSomeone said, “Our government is in so much debt. I don’t think they know how to get out of it.” The Gadfly replied, “It
has gotten so bad that what you say may be true. But our government did not get
into debt because it did not know how to balance its books. It is in debt
because our government’s economic policies are based on an ancient principle
that tells leaders to keep the people’s stomachs full and their heads empty, and
they will be easy to govern. It is easier to go into debt and fatten up the
lambs, than to engage in the art of real government. As long as the people are
able and content to only ask, ‘What is for dinner?’ and ‘What is on Cable?’ the
wrongs of the government cannot be challenged.” |
