of a Gadfly

The Gadfly looked at the pious crowd and said, “Does your body strain to climb
the highest peaks that you may sit at the feet of a teacher and learn life’s
mysteries? Does your heart ache to plumb the depths of your scriptures and your
rituals in order to grab hold of sacred truths? Those secrets already behold
you from the eyes of your children. They sing to you from your laughter and
rock you in your tears. The consummation of your spirit’s journey does not
dwell in the furthest reaches of the heavens. Rather, the kingdom of heaven is
within you. But you have been too busy peering through the skylights of your
souls to heed its presence. |
